The Easter Weekend Food Drive is off to a great start.

The event began Thursday morning and within a few hours, a pick-up truck load of non-perishable food was headed to the Kincardine Food Bank.

Sponsored by myFM, Sobeys, Meridian, Trillium Court, Pierson Chevrolet, Nancy Ackert Financial, and the Kincardine Times, the goal is to "fill a truck" with food which will be distributed to families in the area who may be struggling to afford a good meal this Easter holiday season. Cash donations are also graciously accepted to purchase needed items.

People are being greeted inside Sobeys, by myFM and other sponsors, selling bags of items needed by the food bank.

Doreen Wilson of myFM says once shoppers understand what the event is all about, they are pleased to add a food bank bag to their groceries.

The customers are then greeted outside, beside the truck, where they donate their bag of food.

The food drive continues from April 22, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

myFM will be broadcasting live all weekend at the food drive. "We know we can count on the continued generosity of our community in being a ‘lighthouse of hope’ in the midst of suffering," says myFM general manager Rob Mise.
