Area construction
gets off to a slow start

Construction figures are off to a slow start in Kincardine and Huron-Kinloss.

Kincardine began the year with eight permits issued in January, for a total construction value of $1-million. February, there were nine permits issued, with a total value of $441,000, and in March, 16 permits were issued, with a value of $1.687-million.

That is down slightly from the first quarter of 2010 when 47 permits were issued, for a total construction value of $3.96-million.

In February, 2011, there was a permit for a new house, valued at $225,000; and in March three permits were issued for new homes, with a total value of $1.55-million. For the first quarter, there were nine permits for new homes, with a total construction value of $2.835-million.

In Huron-Kinloss, February saw five permits issued, with a construction value of $203,600. This included one new house.

In March, five more permits were issued, with a value of $785,000, including two new houses.

For the first quarter, there have been 11 permits issued, for a total value of $1.336-million.

Last year, at this time, there were 24 permits issued, with a total value of $2.695-million.
