Dear Editor: I recently read that Acciona/Suncor bought four homes with a fifth home pending in Ripley and was shocked at the misleading comments made by Paul Austin, Acciona/Suncor's public relations spokesperson. Please be very certain that Acciona/Suncor did NOT purchase homes because of community 'feedback'. It's disgraceful that this wind developer allowed these families to suffer for years and gagged them into silence before letting them escape. It then proceeds to kick these people again by setting the wind company spin-guy loose to publicly comment that Acciona/Suncor bought family homes because it is a good corporate citizen and that people don't get sick from turbines. And the families involved, the ones who had lived in their homes for decades until wind turbines came along, can't say a word because they are under threat of being sued if they speak. Acciona/Suncor has re-victimized these innocent families again by these dismissive, self-serving and misleading comments. Yes Mr. Austin, it's a very safe bet that you will lose money when you try to resell the toxic homes your employer just bought. It's nothing short of criminal that your wind company would even consider putting another family into them at all. Maybe Acciona/Suncor can take a lesson from Canadian Hydro Wind Developers in Melancthon which recently used Royal LePage to 'remarket' one of the homes the company purchased after the owners were too ill to live there anymore and who pushed to get out. Canadian Hydro Developers attached a clause to the sales listing of the house that granted it the "right and privilege to permit heat, sound, vibration, shadow flickering of light, noise (including grey noise) or any other adverse effect or combination thereof resulting directly or indirectly from the operation of the Transferee's wind turbine facilities".

I've yet
to see any wind developer rise above the greedy grasp of bottom
line and profit to willingly help the many people who have
become sick with the start-up and exposure to turbines. To
me, Paul Austin/Acciona/Suncor is just another example of the sleazy
lack of integrity that seems to be so prevalent in the wind
industry.
