As summer approaches and recreational boating begins on the Saugeen River, the Town of Saugeen Shores wants everyone to be aware of the hazards.

"For several years, the Southampton Yacht Club has assisted the Town of Saugeen Shores by providing a buoy marker at the location of the abutment in the Saugeen River east of the bridge," says Jayne Jagelewski, Acting Director of  Community Services.

The abutment is located approximately three feet below the water surface and can be a serious hazard to boaters.

The preferred mode of passing by the buoy is to the south or the left side traveling downriver.

"We ask that boaters be cognizant of this potential hazard while navigating the Saugeen River during this upcoming boating season," Jagelewski emphasizes.
