the fight” against cancer and every challenge it can deliver to our
lives.
(L) Optimist President, Brenda Zinn & Ann Marie Watson of Bruce Water Unit team up to 'fight back' Recently, Optimist International re-aligned its focus towards providing support for families experiencing childhood cancer. South-Port Optimist President Brenda Zinn has embraced the initiative with her usual genuine and infectious enthusiasm. Optimist International is committed to “Bringing out the best in kids” by way of their slogan and their robust efforts to deliver on that slogan. South-Port Optimists will be participating with a Monster Garage Sale in Southampton on Saturday May 21st. See details at the end of this editorial. In the meantime, Brenda says; “Make this Monster Garage Sale your opportunity to support these families who are struggling with the ultimate challenge from experiencing childhood cancer. Get up early on Saturday and shop our Monster Garage Sale!”. Ann Marie Watson, Manager of the Bruce Water Unit in the Bruce/Grey/Owen Sound Region of the Canadian Cancer Society represents the cause this Monster Garage Sale is striving to support. One need only spend a few minutes with Ann Marie to encounter unprecedented commitment and drive. Ann Marie supports 2300 Volunteers actively embracing ground breaking community initiatives designed to educate the public, support and enhance the quality of life for cancer patients and eradicate cancer wherever possible through manageable prevention. When asked why Ann Marie dedicates countless hours and limitless energy to this mission; she simply (and humbly) answers: “Because I can”. Ann Marie supports this army of volunteers every year while they produce seemingly countless events including: Relay for Life, Cops for Cancer and Daffodil Month. The 2011 fund raising goal is 1.3 million dollars. Ann Marie displays absolutely no doubts the goal will be achieved.
