As part of celebrating Nurses Week, Southampton Memorial Hospital held a special plaque presentation on Tuesday (May 10) to recognize those nurses who have taken the inititative to strengthen their professional skills through the pursuit of continuing education.

Several nurses received Carolyn Mack certificates for completion of various 'further-education' courses.  The Carolyn Frances Mack Nursing Education Fund was established in memory of nurse Carolyn Mack (nee Helwig) who lost her battle with cancer.  Mack had been a Team Leader of the inpatient medical and surgical units as well as Clinical Supervisor at the Southampton Hospital.

To date, the fund exceeds $29,000 and is used for the further education and training of nurses in the Southampton hospital in the areas of Palliative Care, Cardiac Care, Clinical Technology and Leadership.
