If you're looking for natural stone masonry work or some beautifully-crafted cast stone decor, check out the new business that just opened in Huron-Kinloss Township. Lowry Stone is located on the corner of Lake Range Drive and the 10th Concession of Huron-Kinloss (825 Lake Range Dr.). Owned and operated by Kris Lowry and his wife, Phillippa Haynes, the business features cast stone fountains and bird baths, as well as table sets and planters, displayed in the showroom against a back drop of Lowry's own masonry work. Lowry Stone also carries flagstones from Wiarton for edging gardens, Saver water repellent systems to protect brick work on houses, stainless steel chimney caps, and much more. These specialty items are not available in the area, says Lowry. "This is 100-per-cent natural stone, not concrete stone that has been painted, so it won't fade or deteriorate." The cast stone items come in 21 different colours so customers can select a piece and then choose a colour from the catalogue available in the showroom. A restoration foreman in London and Windsor, Lowry started working on his own in 2003 doing natural stone restoration. His work can be seen on the storefronts of J'Adorn and the New Seasons Restaurant in downtown Kincardine. While he has several projects under way this summer, including new fireplaces, front entrance ways and store fronts, he is booking projects for the winter. He has a man-lift machine that can reach up to 55 feet, and a person licensed to run it, to use in his work. The logo for Lowry Stone features crossing masonry hammers against a natural stone background. Haynes is operating the showroom/office which is open Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday, noon to 4 p.m. The couple lives in Kincardine and has two children, Kayleigh and Paige.
