Major flooding on Parker Street

It was worse than the heavy rainfall and flooding in May, 2000.

A massive thunderstorm, complete with large hailstones, hit the Kincardine area Sunday night, flooding several streets and basements, as catch basins and storm sewers could not handle the huge amount of water.

Parker Street, just east of Queen Street, south of the Kincardine hospital, was under water. Pastor Rob McFadden and his daughter, Katie, paddled their canoe from their backyard, on nearby Princes Street North, across the street to where the water was pouring down the neighbour's driveway.

There was so much water in the McFaddens' backyard that only the top of their shed could be seen, and water was starting to seep into their home through the patio door.

On MacLeod Avenue, residents watched as water ran from the field north of the street, across the roadway and into the driveways and front yards to the south. A large section of the street was under water, deep enough that a pick-up truck could not drive through it.

Basements on Kingsway, east of Queen Street, were flooded. And water rushed across Mechanics Avenue, Nelson Street and out the culvert to the ravine.
