Carol "Cookie" Quinn of Kincardine spent almost a year growing her hair long, just to have it shaved off in a few minutes Thursday afternoon.

But it was all for a good cause as she raised $2,000 for the Cops for Cancer program, in support of pediatric cancer research.

This is Quinn's second time having her head shaved. She participated in the 2006 shave-off, and wanted to do it again in celebration of her family and friends who are cancer survivors.

"I'm doing it for Anne Burton, a cancer survivor for 10 years, and Gail McIntosh who is at nine years," said Quinn. "It's important to go that extra step to let your family and friends know you love them and support them."

She is also having her head shaved in memory of Ron Shelley who died in January of this year. "His wife and I are Legion members and work together," she said.

Since there is no cancer shave-off event in Kincardine this year, and Quinn's hairdresser lives here, she decided to hold her own shave-off and get the deed done at her hairdresser's salon.

As her curly locks went under the clippers and started falling on the floor, Quinn rubbed her head and said, "This feels neat!"
