Pier Donnini, owner of the Queen's Bar and Grill in Port Elgin, went before Saugeen Shores Town Council to ask for approval of a summer expansion. Although the facility has a rear outdoor patio, Donnini wants to expand with an outdoor patio at the front entrance of the building on Goderich Street. According to the plans, there would be a fenced seven-foot area adjacent to the front of the building that would allow for approximately nine tables or 39 patrons with a 'garage-style' roll-up door to the restaurant. Donnini told Council that the area would be 'noise controlled' at night and the fence would have two gates at either end and would be removable at the end of the summer season. Deputy Mayor Luke Charbonneau, Vice-Deputy Mayor Doug Gowanlock and all the councilors felt it was a good move to attract more visitors to the downtown core of Port Elgin. Councilor Diane Huber expressed concern that there would not be enough room for pedestrian traffic but Donnini assured Council that the plans had been approved by town officials. It is anticipated that the work will be completed within three weeks. |
