Mens Golf News

Another great turnout for last week’s Mens’ Golf at Chippewa Golf and Country Club.  And the scores this week were more in line with the abilities of the players, as members begin to improve their games during the first few weeks of the golf season.

For example, in the a-flight, Murray Clark won First Low Gross with a two over par 37 on the front nine.  Cory Bouchard took First Low Net with a net score of 34.  In the B-flight, Mike Cleary and Dan Lazenby shot the low round of the flight with identical scores of 41.  After a putt-off to determine the Low Gross winner, Cleary survived the putting contest to capture First Low Gross.  Lazenby settled for First Low Net with a net score of 34.

In the C-flight, Dan Waunamaker had a great round of 42, three strokes ahead of his nearest competitor, and won First Low Gross in the flight.  Mike Fitzmaurice won First Low Net with a net 35.  In the D-flight, Don Foell took First Low Gross with a 49, while Bill Streeter won the First Low Net award with a net score of 36.

Ron Caudle won the Closest to the Pin competition on the fifth hole while Dan Coblenz sunk the Longest Putt on #2.

Dan Lazenby and Grey Mazda Motors in Owen Sound were the major sponsors of the night, providing several prizes for a random draw.  Winners of the Grey Motors prizers were Derryl Urstadt, Phil Hunt and Don Foell.  Derryl Urstadt also won the weekly Brick Brewery draw prize.

Senior Mens Golf News

Chilly weather kept the number of players relatively low for this week’s Senior Mens’ Golf day, but there were still a good number of hardy seniors who showed up, despite the cool temperatures.

In the S-flight, for handicaps 7 – 21, Lou Bezaire had the low round of the day and won First Low Gross with a score of 82.  Derryl Urstadt took Second Low Gross with an 84.  Barry Beatty also had a good round and won First Low Net with a net score of 67, edging out Mike Cleary, who also shot lights out, with a net score of 68, which was good enough for Second Low Net.

In the B-flight, Barry Robson shot 99 to win First Low Gross for a second time this year, followed by Lloyd Kibler, who won Second Low Gross with a 102.  Bill Thomson and Art Eby both had net scores of 77, and shared the First and Second Low Net prizes.

Barry Beatty won the Closest to the Pin competition on #5, while Lorne Lazenby won the same contests on #13.
