About 25 people were out walking their dogs in the beautiful sunshine Sunday afternoon in Tiverton.

It was all for a good cause as they were part of the Lions Foundation of Canada Purina Walk for Dog Guides hosted by the Tiverton Lions Club.

The event saw 12 registered walkers, some with two dogs, raise a total of $4,424, plus some on-line pledges that are yet to be counted.

All participants enjoyed a barbecue following the walk.

The Lions Foundation of Canada trains five different types of Dog Guides to help Canadians with disabilities:

  • Canine Vision Dog Guides for people who are blind or visually-impaired
  • Hearing Ear Dog Guides for people who are deaf or hard of hearing
  • Special Skills Dog Guides for people with a medical or physical disability
  • Seizure Response Dog Guides for people who have epilepsy
  • Autism Assistance Dog Guides for children with autism
