Sunday night's flash storm caused a surcharge to the entire water system in Kincardine which caused several streets to flood in the municipality. That's the word from chief administrative officer John deRosenroll Wednesday. He said the intense storm hit Kincardine at 8:45 p.m. Sunday and at various spots in Ward 1 (former Town of Kincardine), two to three inches of rain fell in about an hour's time. "It surcharged our entire system and in several areas, water was backed up into two or three stormwater ponds," said deRosenroll. "It took over an hour to drain away in the culverts." He said about a half-dozen residents had their basements flooded. Those residents will have the damage assessed by their insurance companies, get their properties cleaned up and then their insurance companies will have to talk to the municipality's insurance company, said deRosenroll. There were two major water issues Sunday night, he said. The one was caused by surface water flooding across the streets and into people's basements. The other problem saw a couple of homes below the golf course where the back water relief valve blew out and they had sanitary sewage back up into their basements.
