Congratulations to Lisa and Eion MacKay who celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary recently.

And to Greta and Linden Thurber who celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Family and friends from B.C. to the Maritimes were here to enjoy the Ripley hospitality and help Greta and Linden celebrate.

Great to have the farmers out getting the seeding done – and also start on the haying. At least we are not near Dawson Creek, B.C., where the garden was covered in snow on Thursday.

Congratulations to the Pine River Cheese Store for a lovely new venue - looks great.

Some friends gathered at Mary Anne Kukoly's recently to take a trip down memory lane. They enjoyed a meal centred on what would have been served during the Second World War. Ice cream was not served as the hostess was not into making ice cream! Attending were Lois Irwin, Betty Johnson, Sheila MacDonald, Doreen Platten and Donna Swann.

Gosh, how the community has been hit with these strong winds of late. Many folks have suffered the damage and loss of some old and cherished trees.

Purple Grove Women's Institute

The June meeting of the Purple Grove Women's Institute was held at the home of Deanna Scott. President Cheryl Bridge opened the meeting and after the Ode and Collect, turned the meeting over to convener Joyce Farrell.

Joyce introduced our guest speaker Kristen Freiburger of the Lake Huron Centre for Coastal Conservation. Kristen had a power point presentation on preserving our coastal waters and beaches which was enjoyed by all present. The members had many questions for her and it helped us all understand the necessity of keeping our beaches and wetlands environment healthy.

June Elliott read the Scripture. Fran Farrell read the minutes of the last meeting and read the new correspondence. Mary Anne Kukoly gave a brief report of the District Annual held in Port Elgin recently. She showed pictures of the outfits that the speaker Barb Bryce makes for girls in Third World Countries.

Cheryl and Betty Needham talked about the plans for our Night Out. Shirley MacDonald won a gift because her birthday was the closest to the date of the meeting. We all enjoyed the great lunch provided by Betty Needham and Janet Rhody.
