It was an exciting moment at the senior boys high jump Tuesday at the Ripley-Huron Community School track and field meet held at the Davidson Centre track.

Cole Lamont was clearing the high jump bar easily as it was raised in increments of five centimetres at a time until he was the last one standing to take a run at the record of 1.65 metres.

He and Sheldon McBride both cleared 1.45 metres, and then Lamont cleared 1.5 metres and 1.55 metres. However, he was unable to clear the bar any higher and took first place in the event.

The Ripley athletes, Grades 3-8, were competing in several other events, including running races, standing long jump, running long jump, shot put and ball throw.

The weather was sunny, breezy and hot, making it difficult for the runners in the longer races, such as the 800-metre and 1,500-metre.
