Kincardine council wants to discuss with the South Bruce Grey Health Centre, the agreement regarding revenue generated parking fees at the Kincardine hospital. The parking lot there also serves the Kincardine Community Medical Clinic, owned by the municipality. At the council meeting last night (June 15), councillor Ron Coristine asked to have a letter from Mel Lyons of Kincardine, brought forward for discussion. Lyons states that he was told some time ago that the revenue generated from the parking fees ($3 per vehicle) at the Kincardine hospital goes to the Walkerton hospital. [Kincardine and Walkerton are part of the South Bruce Grey Health Centre, along with Chesley and Durham.] Lyons writes that many of his visits are to the clinic where his appointment might last only a few minutes once he sees the doctor. "Now," he writes, "the placement of the new robotic collection bandit appears to be able to demand payment from everyone who drives to the top of the hill to use, for whatever purpose, our local community medical facility." He states he doesn't mind paying the $3 fee if the money remains in the local community, but he resents it going to Walkerton. "Kincardine council and local area residents need to start a minor revolution for separation," he writes in his letter. "The sooner all the people who use this Kincardine area medical/health facility get together and demand from the provincial government approval to go-it-alone, I believe, the better off we will all be. Hanover has done it and we should be able to as well or even better if they can." "I'm concerned about people having to pay to go and see their doctor or go to our medical clinic," said Coristine.

"I agree 100 per cent," said councillor Maureen
Couture. "That clinic is ours even if it is on hospital property. We
should re-open our agreement with the hospital board." Council agreed to have staff send a letter to the South Bruce Grey Health Centre board of directors, requesting the agreement be re-opened and reviewed, pertaining to the parking fees and how they are disbursed.
