Renowned artist, Peter Rindlisbacher, was in Southampton recently for the Grand Opening of the Stokes Bay Lighthouse and the prelude to the official opening of the Marine exhibit in 2012 at the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre. The 2012 exhibit will celebrate the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812 and the discovery of the shipwreck of the British warship, the General Hunter, on Southampton's Beach. "The General Hunter is my favourite ship from that era," said Rindlisbacher.
Rindlisbacher explains the background of his painting of the Battle of Lake Erie Recognized as a leading marine artist on the War of 1812, his works are in museums and historic sites throughout Canada and the United States in addition to being in private collections. As an artist, he works closely with historians to accurately create his paintings and images that have been used on many book and magazine covers as well as television and video productions. According to his biography, he was born in Windsor, Ontario, Rindlisbacher is the son of a boat builder and commercial artist and has a Ph.D. in Psychology. He has a passion for everything nautical and, in the past, has been a racing sailor, club instructor, ship model builder and historical naval re-enactor. During the Museum's 2012 celebrations of the War of 1812 and discovery of the General Hunter, Rindlisbacher will be coming back to the Museum as part of the programming. The painting was commissioned by the Museum and paid for by Bruce County. |
