High bacterial contamination in three area beaches

Beach water sampling has identified significant levels of bacterial contamination at Sauble Beach, South Bruce Peninsula, Lion’s Head Beach, Northern Bruce Peninsula, and Bayshore Beach in Owen Sound. These results are consistent with the significant rainfall over the last few days. The levels are well in excess of Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care standards.

As a result, the Medical Officer of Health advises bathers that high levels of bacteria in this water may pose a risk to their health. Bather are reminded that these conditions typically exist after heavy rain.
