Mens’ Golf News
Back to the front nine this week for the Mens’ golf action, and Brian Acton took the honours on Thursday night with the best round of the night, a one over par 36. Acton won First Low Gross in the A-flight for his effort, while Lou Bezaire, who was only one stroke behind Acton, won First Low Net with a net 31.
We had a tie again the B-flight, with two players shooting identical scores and carrying the same handicap. Barry Beatty and Steve Webb both shot 43, tied for First Low Gross, and had net scores of 34, tied for First Low Net. Share the wealth, fellas. In the C-flight, Charlie Schmalz was on fire, shooting a great round of 42 to easily win First Low Gross in the flight.
In the D-flight, Don Foell took another trip to the prize table with his score of 46, winning First Low Gross, while Bill Richards took First Low Net with a net 35.
The B-flight winners, having already shared the Low Gross and Low Net awards with the same scores, went on to win the individual contests on the course. Barry Beatty sunk the Longest Putt on #9 and Steve Webb, won the Closest to the Pin competition on the fifth hole.
Senior Mens’ Golf News
This week’s Senior Golf action was a full eighteen hole game with members teeing off at 8:30 am in a shotgun start. The low score of the day was recorded by Derryl Urstadt with a 79, good enough to claim First Low Gross in the A-flight (for handicaps 7 – 15) Mike Pitzen won Second Low Gross with an 84, while Lou Bezaire and Barry Beatty shared First Low Net honours with net scores of 69.
In the B-flight, (for handicaps 16 – 24), Tom Bailey had a great round of 91 to win First Low Gross, one stroke ahead of Paul Holk who took Second Low Gross with his 92. Jan Riddall won First Low Net with a net 71, followed by Al Cruickshank with a net 74. In the C-flight, (for handicaps 25 – 28), Barry Robson tore the course up again, shooting 89 and easily winning First Low Gross. Second Low Gross was won by John Upper with a score of 104. Bill Richards won First Low Net with a net 77, followed by Peter Day with a net 80.
In the D-flight, (for handicaps 29 and above), Watt Rodgers won First Low Gross with a score of 106, one stroke ahead of Dennis Johnston who took Second Low Gross with his 107. Bert Tripp won First Low Net with a net 72, followed by Zen Rybak with a net 74.
Barry Beatty won the Closest to the Pin competition on #5, and Ron Caudle won the same contest on the thirteenth hole.
Ladies Golf News
The Ladies golf action takes place on Thursday mornings, and we have two weeks of golf action to report. On June 9, the field was divided into two flights, with some great scores recorded. In the A-flight, Doris Pelletier won First Low Gross with a great round of 99, followed by Marj McCorquodale who won Second Low Gross with a score of 101. Betty Ross won First Low Net with a net 77, followed by Pat Urstadt with a net 80.
In the B-flight, Roma Rolfe won First Low Gross with a score of 111, two strokes ahead of Fran Towner, who took Second Low Gross with a 113. Audrey Carter won First Low Net with a net 79, and Karen Speight took Second Low Net with a net score of 85.
On June 16, the format changed a bit, with prizes awarded for various skills used throughout the eighteen holes as well as for Low Gross and Low Net scores. Doris Pelletier won the overall Low Gross award of the day and Pat Urstadt took the overall Low Net honours. Mary Kennedy won the Closest to the Pin competition on #5, while Diana Tripp won the Birdie Hole with a birdie on #3. Barb Thomson sunk the Longest Putt on the ninth hole, and Waverly Johnston sunk the Longest Putt on #18.
