Mens’ Golf News

This week’s Mens’ Night was moved from Thursday to Wednesday to make way for the Triple Play tournament, in which competitors play nine holes at three local golf courses, including Chippewa.

Murray Clark was back in form this week, shooting a great round of 37 to claim First Low Gross in the A-flight.  Ron Caudle also had a good round and won First Low Net in the flight with a net 36.  In the B-flight, Dan Lazenby continued his hot play with a 40 and claimed First Low Gross, while Steve Santin took First Low Net with a net score of 34.

In the C-flight, Chris Collison won First Low Gross with a 36, while the steady Charlie Schmalz claimed First Low Net this week with a net 35.  In the D-flight, George Matheson shot the low round of his group and claimed First Low Gross with a 60.  Kent Bergstrom took a trip to the prize table as he won First Low Net with a net 37.

Dan Lazenby on behalf of Grey Motors Mazda, our major sponsor this week, provided special prizes and they were won through a draw.  The winners were Steve Santin, Jason Nissen and Wade Johnson.

Senior Mens’ Golf News

We had a bit smaller turnout for the Senior Mens’ event this week, possibly linked to the full day of golf played by many the day before in the Senior Mens’ Invitational tournament.  Still, there were enough players to group them into three flights.

In the A-flight, for handicaps 14 – 23, Mike Pitzen was the low shooter this week, winning First Low Gross with an 84.  Terry Bailey won Second Low Gross with a 90.  Paul Holk, who has very recently turned his game around, won First Low Net with a net 72.  Don Hill and Al Cruickshank shared Second Low Net with net scores of 73.

In the B-flight, for handicaps 24 – 27, Don Foell took First Low Gross with a 95, followed by Jiggs Maynard, who carded a 102.  Lloyd Kibler and Bill Thomson tied for First Low Net with net scores of 72.

In the C-flight, for handicaps 28 and above, Peter Welford had the low round of the flight and took First Low Gross with an even 100.  George Matheson took second Low Gross while George Wilson, who really turned it on this week, won First Low Net with a net 69.  Bert Tripp won Second Low Net with a net score of 72.
