Ontario insurance brokers are donating 50 magenta blankets to the Canadian Cancer Society’s Relay for Life in Saugeen Shores, July 8-9. Members of Miller Insurance Brokers Inc. will attend the annual event and present the blankets to the local organizers. Relay For Life is a fund-raising event organized by the Canadian Cancer Society which occurs every year, in hundreds of towns and cities across the country. The event focuses on celebrating cancer survivors, remembering lost loved ones and fighting back in hopes of finding a cure for this horrible disease. Teams of 10 people join together and walk the 12-hour overnight event, with at least one member of each team on the track at all times. The signature fleece blankets, donated to the event by Miller Insurance Brokers Inc., are distributed to various teams to offer support and warmth throughout the night. Every year, the Insurance Brokers Association of Ontario donates thousands of fleece blankets and volunteers its time to a variety of charities around the province. It is a reminder that insurance brokers are tremendously committed and active in their communities. “We are thrilled to take part in such an extraordinary event," says Stacey Millar of Miller Insurance Brokers Inc. "The renowned Relay for Life is truly inspiring and we are honoured to be involved. We hope these blankets will keep the participants warm and motivated throughout the evening event.” Insurance brokers are known for their commitment to their community and keeping Ontarians safe. Insurance Brokers are consistent in providing support for local charities and as local independent business owners, the association’s members strongly believe in giving back to their community. Miller Insurance is also the survivor sponsor for the Relay for Life events in Saugeen Shores, Kincardine and Owen Sound. If you are a cancer survivor or caregiver, join Miller for the first lap - the Survivors' Victory Lap - followed by a reception held in your honour. The Saugeen Shores relay is July 8-9, Kincardine's is Aug. 12-13, and Owen Sound's is Sept. 16-17. There are also relays in Blue Mountains July 15-16 and Hanover Sept. 9-10. For those unable to participate, you can honour a loved one with the purchase of a luminary candle with a personal message; pledge a participant or make a general donation; or volunteer at the local relay. There's a role for everyone. For more information or to donate, check the website at www.relayforlife.ca
