Mens’ Golf News

The back nine, a par 37, was the venue for this week’s Mens’ Night at Chippewa Golf and Country Club.  Murray Clark tore up the fairways and greens, as he carded a one over par 38 to win First Low Gross in the A-flight.  Jamie Green, a new member this year, has given notice that he is gearing up for the Club Championship, as he was only one stroke behind Clark, and won First Low Net with a net score of 33. 

In the B-flight, Chris Collison had a steady round of golf, scoring 43 and winning First Low Gross in the flight.  Paul Holk, who will tell you that his game has been up and down all year, had an ‘up’ round on Thursday night, winning First Low Net in the flight with a net 34.  In the C-flight, Charlie Schmalz, a familiar name in this column, took First Low Gross with a round of 47, while Corey Whitehead won First Low Net with a net 35. 

In the D-flight, Bill Streeter broke 50 and won First Low Gross in the flight with a 49,   George Wilson, who has been a member at Chippewa for many years, won First Low Net with a net 34.  Hugh Morrison won the Closest to the Pin competition on the thirteenth hole while Rich Metzger sunk the Longest Putt on #10. 

Senior Mens’ Golf News 

Every year, Al Cruickshank says his goal is to shoot his age or lower, and as the years go by, this becomes a more difficult challenge.  But this Tuesday morning, everything went Al’s way and he did shoot his age (check below to see his score).  Congratulations Al! 

In the A-flight this week, for handicaps 14 to 25, Steve Webb had a great round of 79 to win First Low Gross.  Terry Bailey shot 82 and won Second Low Gross in the flight.  Al Cruickshank shot 87 to win First Low Net with a net score of seven under par, 65.  Two other players also had great rounds and tied for Second Low Net with net scores of 66. 

In the B-flight, for handicaps 26 and above, Peter Welford was the hot player as he won First Low Gross with a 95.  John Upper won Second Low Gross with a great round of 98.  Dennis Johnston and Don Foell tied for First Low Net with net scores of 70. 

Jiggs Maynard won the Closest to the Pin competition on #5 while Terry Bailey was Closest to the Pin on #13. 

Ladies Golf News 

This week’s Ladies event awarded prizes to the low net player and to those who were closest to the holes and who could sink the longest putts. 

Barb Thomson won the overall Low Net competition, while Marguerite Strangways was Closest to the Pi on #5.  Roma Rolfe sunk the Longest Putt on the ninth hole, and Joan Chiappetta had the Longest Putt on #18.
