Mens’ Golf News

Warm, dry weather and good playing conditions continue to reign at Chippewa Golf and Country Club, and as a result, the weekly Mens’ Night is constantly filled with members and guests.  This week, the play was on the front nine, a par 35 with two par 5s and three par 3s

Brian Acton was the number one player again this week, as he carded a one over par 36, capturing First Low Gross in the A-flight for his efforts.  Keith Stein was only one stroke behind Acton, and claimed First Low Net with a net 33

In the B-flight, Steve Woss won First Low Gross with a great round of 39, while Steve Santin took First Low Net with a net 31.  In the C-flight, Bill Hatt beat up the front nine and won First Low Gross with a great round of 41.  Charlie Schmalz took a trip to the prize table to claim First Low Net with his net score of 32.

In the D-flight, Watt Rodgers continued his good golf, scoring a 45 and winning First Low Gross.  Wade Jackson took First Low Net with a net 35.  Harold Agla won the Closest to the Pin competition on the fifth hole, while Keith Stein sunk the Longest Putt on #1.

Senior Mens’ Golf News

This week was scheduled for the monthly Team Scramble event, and a great turnout of players enjoyed this popular format.  In this game, teams of four players are formed, comprised of one player from each of the handicap groups, and each player must use at least three drives during the eighteen holes.

The team captained by Steve Webb with Tom Bailey, Don Foell and Bert Tripp were the overall winners of the day, carding a four under par 68.  Two teams were tied for second place, only one shot behind.  The teams captained by Don Hill with Jim Connelly, Don White and Derryl Urstadt, and by Lou Bezaire with Barrie Robson and George Wilson shared Second Place honours of the day with identical scores of 69.

Lou Bezaire demonstrated his expertise on the par threes, as he claimed both Closest to the Pin prizes on the fifth and thirteenth holes.

Ladies Golf News

This week’s game for the Ladies at Chippewa was nothing complicated – just a regular low gross and low net competition. And there were some good scores recorded, as Barb Veyvara won the overall Low Gross for the day with a score of 94.

Doris Pelletier won Second Low Gross with an even 100, followed by Marguerite Strangways, only one stroke behind with a score of 101.

Joan Chiappetta won the overall Low Net competition with a net score of 72.  Only one stroke behind and tied for Second Low Net were Diana Tripp and Fran Towner, both with net scores of 73.

Doris Pelletier won the Closest to the Pin competition on the 13th hole.  Joan Chiappetta sunk the Longest Putt on number 9, while Mary Kennedy won the same competition on #18.
