The Friends of Wind Ontario are hosting their inaugural wind energy event tonight (July 26) at 7 p.m., at the Royal Canadian Legion in Clinton. A number of key speakers and topics will be presented at this event:
The event will be be informative, thought-provoking and well-attended. It may also be contentious, however the Friends have taken a number of precautions to minimize potential incidents. The speakers have impressive personal, regulatory and technical credentials in wind energy. Interest in these educational events will only increase as Ontario heads into the fall election and beyond. The Friends of Wind Ontario group is comprised of people from a variety of backgrounds who firmly believe in the benefits of wind power for the people of Ontario. It was formed to fill the critical void that exists between community engagement and achievable wind power development. Through science-based, peer-reviewed research, Friends of Wind Ontario are committed to delivering a balanced message to all who would like to learn more about the economic, environmental and social benefits of wind energy. The Friends are a non-profit organization, volunteer-financed and under their own direction, however they do receive some administrative support from OSEA and CanWEA. The groups goals are the following: • Positively influence public perception of wind power through fact-based materials and presentations • Deliver information and education sessions in support of wind energy and related legislation • Bridge the knowledge and communication gaps that currently exist between local communities and the wind power industry
