Bluewater Summer Playhouse drama camp leader Alanna Boucher (C) rehearses with her students, Eric Hackney (L), Charlie Hall-Elwood, Ran Hinchberger, Maia Hinchberger, John Graham and Laura Fohkens, in Victoria Park

Young people were dressed as beavers, fish and the title characters of the Robert Munsch book "Smelly Socks," as they acted out their parts in Victoria Park Thursday afternoon.

They were students in the Bluewater Summer Playhouse drama camp under the direction of leaders Alanna Boucher of Kincardine and April Nicolle of Toronto.

And they were rehearsing for their performance of the show for parents and families Friday afternoon in the Kincardine Arts Centre auditorium.

This was the culmination of the second week-long camp; the first was held the week before.

Boucher said there were 25 students in the first week, and 34 in the second. The majority are learning to act, while some want to learn the behind-the-scenes work, such as props, sets and costumes.

The crew this week had the opportunity to go on a backstage tour at the arts centre, thanks to Katie Kloosterboer who is technical director of the Bluewater Summer Playhouse this season.

The camp students also went for a swim at Boucher's family pool, and built sandcastles at the beach to learn how to design sets.

Last week's crew baked cupcakes at the Erie Belle and learned the "ingredients" required to become a good actor.

Boucher credited the success of the drama camp to her parents who supported the event and helped out when they could.
