The weather was perfect as the Southampton Arts Society hosted the 9th Annual Lantern Festival at Fairy Lake in Southampton on July 31st (2011).

Acclaimed artist and storyteller Alison Wearing and world/folk musician Jarmo Jalava entertained, what some said, was the largest crowd to ever attend the event.

Children 'of all ages' created their lanterns and enjoyed fresh popcorn as they listened to the entertainment while waiting for dusk and the traditional lantern walk around Fairy Lake.

This year, piper Matt Layden of Kincardine, lead the way around the lake.

Not just the young but also the 'young at heart'  joined in the trek

During the evening, there also a 50/50 draw, which Nancy Wyonch won and promptly donated back to the Southampton Arts Society.

Artist, Susan Seitz, took a different approach as she created unusual jewellery out of the 'glow sticks'!
