Enbridge Renewable Energy Infrastructure LP is one of several sponsors of the 20th annual Kincardine Summer Music Festival which began yesterday (July 31) and runs to Aug. 13. The music camp, based at St. Anthony's School this year, has about 320 students over the two weeks - the first week featuring jazz music, and the second week featuring chamber and instrumental music. Celebrating its 20th anniversary, the festival began in the spring of 1992 when local resident Ron Lewis and music teacher John Schnarr approached Chamber Music Kincardine to help create a music camp, as well as continue its presentation of local chamber concerts. The first Kincardine Summer Music Festival was organized in just a few months with a handful of volunteers - most notably: Ron Lewis, Hans and Kathryn Braul, and Irv and Carolynn Mills. The idea was to offer musical learning and playing opportunities for everyone, especially young musicians, during the daytime classes, as well as present a concert series for all to attend in the evenings. By combining the two, the festival could offer students the opportunity to study and play with world-class artists during the day, attend their concerts at night, and grow to know and appreciate these performers in person. The event has grown to be one of the largest music festivals in Ontario. The combination of daytime classes and public evening concerts has made it a preferred summer music destination for music students and faculty. Beginners
of all ages can rent and learn to play the instrument of their choice. Experienced
students are provided with the opportunity to develop their skills. Advanced students can challenge themselves in the jazz, chamber music or vocal programs. The goal has always been to offer affordable but excellent musical opportunities to to the local communities, as well as reaching out to others. Many of the professional staff returns year after year for a small recompense because of their love of music and enthusiasm for teaching. The students meet new friends, learn and play together, and are inspired by the world-class artists. Many have gone on to concentrate on music in their chosen profession. All have been enriched by the festival experience. The festival offers free concerts at 4 p.m. each day in Victoria Park:
