Local Paralympic athlete excels at Czech Open

Rick Carr ( a blind athlete) and his guide runner
Evan Porter of Port Elgin have just returned from
 the 2011 Czech Open for Paralympic athletes in
Olomouc.
 
During the competition Rick and Evan competing
 in the T11 class finished 2nd in the 100 with
 a time of 12.48 seconds .
 
In the F11 long jump competition they were able
to finish 1st with a jump of 5.26 metres.
 
They finished the meet by anchoring the Canadian
4 x 100 Relay Team to victory in a new National
Record time of 46.86.
 
Rick's distance of 5.26 metres in the Long Jump
was a B standard performance required for qualifying
to the 2012 Paralympics Games in London .
 
The Canadian Relay Team has also qualified for the
London Games .
 
Both athletes are members of the Saugeen Track
 and Field Club and train out of Port Elgin.
