Saugeen Ojibway Nation (SON) celebrated its 40th anniversary Pow Wow on the weekend of August 13, 2011. Saugeen Shores Police Chief, Dan Rivett, and his family attended the celebration where they met up with SON Chief, Randall Kahgee.
"This is really a good thing," said Rivett. "It lets people who are not First Nations learn and appreciate a culture with deep traditional values." Chief Kahgee said that the celebration was the largest that SON had hosted in many years with over 150 dancers, drummers and singers participating from many regions. "The attendance in this year of celebration is amazing," he said, "not only with the participants but also the public at large. We are also seeing more young people become involved through the music and dancing and that's a good thing."
