What a delight to gather to celebrate with the young women of our community who are getting married this summer/fall.

Fran Farrell, MC, asked the young ladies to share what has been happening in their lives since leaving high school. Then Joyce Farrell gave some excellent readings, Marilyn Reid had some fun and challenging contests. Ruth Ann Hollands passed around a sheet that asked 'how many others were related to all of the brides' which caused much discussion.

Fran gave each of the brides-to-be a thoughtful address about her future and growing up years in Purple Grove. After Becca, Christine and Gabrielle opened their many lovely gifts, they thanked everyone and talked about their families and bridal parties. They were especially thankful for the generosity of the community for the group gifts.

And then the time of visiting really switched into high gear and much laughter and 'catching up' followed while everyone was enjoying the munchies provided. Special thanks to Janet Rhody for making and decorating a lovely cake in honour of the future brides. Thanks to Fran Farrell, Janet Rhody and Mary Anne Kukoly for organizing the shower and their work in making it a good community get-together.

Congratulations too, to Nicole Hutchison (daughter of Connie Hutchison and granddaughter of Lois Pollock) who was honoured at the Ripley Legion on Saturday morning. Nicole is getting married in September. Janice Burgess and Kerry Houston did a great job of hosting that shower for the community. It was also great to see Nicole's sisters, Lisa and Marie, too.

Marjorie Scharf and Lois Wong of Saskatchewan are spending a few days in our area. They are visiting with their cousins, Deanna and Morley Scott, and researching their family histories.

Freda Owen of London enjoyed a visit with Bette MacLeod Sunday.

Old friends gathered to honour Doris Schwartz who will be 90 a bit later this month. Included in the gathering at Mary Anne Kukoly's home were Doris' daughter Carol Bogaert, Bernice Campbell, Margaret Ann Orr, Shirley MacDonald and Donna Swann. The ones who get together in Kincardine had a great time talking about 'the old days'.

It is great to see the mixed grains being harvested. We know the farmers are thankful to get their crops off in such good weather even though we do need rain so badly.

Marilyn and Don Reid visited with Charlene and Peter Mansfield of the Boundary and with Lois and Ross Durnin just south of Lucknow. We are so thankful Ross is improving every day.

Mary Anne Kukoly spent some chatting time with June and Earl Elliott of Wingham and with Isabel Brook at Pinecrest in Lucknow.
