The new gymnasium addition at the Davidson Centre in Kincardine, is set for completion by mid-October. That's the word from Dave Helwig, the new site superintendent for Henderson Builders, taking over from Mike O'Hagan who has retired. The project, which received two-thirds funding from the federal and provincial governments, began last summer and was to be completed this spring. However, an extension was granted to the end of October. Helwig said the washrooms and change rooms are expected to be finished by Sept.1. Next week, work begins on the installation of the gymnasium floor and the indoor running/walking track on the upper level, provided humidity levels are ideal, said Helwig. The concrete track has been built and will be covered with two inches of flowable concrete and then a rubberized surface. The gym floor is made of maple and must be installed when humidity is at a certain level, and allowed to cure. The trailer, which has housed site management throughout the project, is to be moved this week so the entrance can be finished, said Helwig. The arena ice surface went in last week and the windows from the warm viewing area are ready for people to enjoy the hockey season. The addition cost more than $3-million, with the municipality footing the bill for one-third of that.
