Michelle Lamont (C) of Enbridge Renewable Energy Infrastructure LP, presents a cheque for $500 to the Bervie Women's Institute, represented by Betty Jean White (L), Norma Hartwick, Janice Hewitt, Mildred Griffith, Vi Thompson, president Betty Anne Thompson, and Islay Eby

Enbridge Renewable Energy Infrastructure LP presented two cheques to local organizations, through the company's community grants program, administered by the Municipality of Kincardine.

The first was $500 to the Bervie Women's Institute, which appreciated the funding to help fix up and maintain the Bervie W.I. Hall where the group meets and holds various functions throughout the year.

President Betty Anne Thompson said this money will be used to replace the back door and install a new window in the building.

"These grants have certainly helped us and they are greatly appreciated," she said. "We were able to put new siding on the hall, and install a new floor. And all of that has helped cut our heating costs."

Shannon Drainville (L), community and fund development co-ordinator at the Women's House Serving Bruce and Grey, accepts a cheque for $3,500 from Michelle Lamont of Enbridge Renewable Energy Infrastructure LP

The Bervie W.I. has welcomed four new members and is enjoying great success with its ROSE (Rural Ontario Sharing Education) Program. A large group came out to learn how to make preserves at the most recent ROSE program event.

The second cheque was $3,500 to the Women's House Serving Bruce and Grey. That money will go toward the operating costs of the women's shelter which provides programs and services throughout Bruce and Grey counties, for women and children suffering from violence in the home.
