Construction slows in Kincardine and Huron-Kinloss

Construction has slowed in the Municipality of Kincardine and Township of Huron-Kinloss.

Building reports for June and July show a decline compared to 2010.

In Kincardine, there were 33 building permits issued in June, the same as in May this year; however, the construction value decreased to $1.972-million from $3.522-million the month before.

Permits were issued for four new houses in June, with a total value of $1.524-million. To date, 19 permits have been issued for new homes, with a total value of $6.324-million.

In May, 2010, there were 44 permits issued with a value of $3.05-million; and in June, 2010, 35 permits with a value of $6.127-million.

Meanwhile, in Huron-Kinloss, chief building official Matt Farrell said construction is a bit slower than last year.

June figures showed 22 permits issued with a value of $1.015-million. Of those, four were for new houses, including the 50th house in the Inverlyn Lake Estates subdivision. Farrell said that subdivision is one-third built and developers are pleased with the results.

July figures showed 12 permits issued with a value of $977,500, down considerably from the month before. Of those, two were for new homes. To date, permits have been issued for 22 new residences in 2011.

However, construction has decreased substantially in Huron-Kinloss, compared to 2011. Last year, to date, 131 permits were issued with a total value of $16.503-million. This year, to date, 90 permits have been issued with a value of $7.354-million.
