Mens Golf News
This week’s format for Mens’ golf was a Texas Scramble where teams are formed with players from each of the four handicap groups and play a best-ball game over nine holes. Each player must contribute two drives during the nine hole round.
Two teams were extremely competitive this week, coming in with scores of five under par 30. Congratulations to the team captained by Steve Santin with Mike Cleary, Jim Norwood and Bill Richards and to the team captained by Brian Acton with Chris Collison and Mike Koepke. In third place with a score of thre under par 32 was the team captained by Ron Caudle with Dan Coblenz and Kent Bergstrom.
Chris Collison won the Closest to the Pin competition on the fifth hole while Don White sunk the Longest Putt on #2.
In Mens’ Match Play action, in the third round of play, Freeman Coblenz defeated Al Cruickshank. In the semi-final round, Barry Beatty eliminated Coblenz while Grolway defeated Ron Caudle.
In Mens’ Team Match Play action, in the third round of play, Mike Cleary and Mike Pitzen moved into the semi-finals by eliminating the Chelsey team of Denomy and Woods; Rick Grolway and Charlie Schmalz defeated Brian Acton and Paul Holk; Frank Yakabuski and Kevin Dagnall won over Murray Clark and Don Foell.
Senior Mens’ Golf
Derryl Urstadt had the low round of the day this week in Senior Mens’ golf action, scoring a 79 and winning First Low Gross in the A-flight, for handicaps 10 – 21. Barry Beatty won Second Low Gross with an 84. Mike Pitzen won First Low Net with a net 68, followed closely by Jiggs Maynard with a net 69.
In the B-flight, for players with handicaps 22 – 28, Tom Bailey won First Low Gross with a great round of 93, and Terry Morgan also had a good score of 97, taking Second Low Gross in the flight. Bill Thomson won First Low Net with a net 67, followed by Don Foell with a net 71.
In the C-flight, for handicaps 29 and above, Joe Chiappetta won First Low Gross with a 97, followed by Watt Rodgers witha score of 106. Don White won first Low Net with a net score of 70, followed by Art Eby with a net 74.
Terry Bailey won the Closest to the Pin competition on the fifth hole and Mike Pitzen won the same contest on#13.
In Senior Mens’ Match Play action, in the third round of play, Paul Holk eliminated Barry Beatty and went on to defeat Hugh Morrison in the semi-finals. Mike Pitzen also won his semi-final match when Bill Lazenby defaulted due to an injury.
