The Armow Wind Power Project in Kincardine (Ward 2) has a new owner.

Acciona Renewable Energy has transferred all project assets to Samsung Renewable Energy and Pattern Energy which, as partners, have independently secured access to the Bruce area's transmission system.

These companies will now include the Armow project in a larger wind farm project for which Samsung and Pattern will initiate development in the coming weeks.

That's the word from Paul Austin, community relations manager for Acciona, in a letter to Kincardine council, included in the agenda for the Sept. 7 council meeting.

In the letter, Austin states that the Armow project did not receive a FIT (Feed-In Tariff) contract through the Ontario Power Authority in June.

"Our project team has been analyzing the overall impact of the announcement, and evaluating how best to continue development of the Armow Wind Power Project with future power sale opportunities and remaining available transmission capacity both identified as key issues," writes Austin.

At the same time, the partnership of Samsung and Pattern was seen as a way to advance the Armow project in the near term.

"The entire Acciona team, and certainly myself personally, regret we were unable to see the Armow project through to construction and operation ourselves, as was our goal from the outset," states Austin. "However, we are excited that Samsung/Pattern chose to continue development on the Armow project and we believe the Samsung/Pattern proposal offers the best possible opportunity for our landowners and the general community to see the project move forward."

He says the two companies plan to jointly develop, construct, own and operate the project.

The new project contact is Jody Law at Pattern Energy. Austin urges anyone with questions about the Armow project to contact Law at 1-647-618-3861 or jody.law@patternenergy.com
