Staff, residents and guests joined in a celebration Friday afternoon at RVilla Retirement Living in Ripley, honouring 21 residents who are 90 years of age and older, and one resident who turns 90 in November. Christine Franklin, activities director, welcomed the members of the 90-plus club and put an Hawaiian lei around each person's neck. Serena Rutledge read two poems she had written, and everyone enjoyed a special cake made by Earla Minor, and refreshments. The honoured residents were asked what their secret was for longevity. Some said they just didn't get old. Others said to keep dancing. And one said he married his childhood sweetheart and they stayed young. The eldest resident at RVilla is Margaret Mowbray at 97; and the second eldest is Phyllis Anderson at 95. Joining them in the 90-plus club are Stuart and Eletta Aitken, Anne Anderson, Nina Bushell, Helen Chatham, Kay Collyer, Burt and Jean Elliott, Tena Gardner, Doris Hollands, Sirkka Korpinen, Agnes Lyons, Fern MacDonald, Bette MacLeod, Irene Emmerton, Bob MacKenzie, Donelda Pollard, Aileen Smither, June Thompson and Joe Kieffer.
