Kincardine's Brushwood Under-14 girls soccer team finished an excellent season by being crowned tournament champions in Mount Forest last week.

The girls had two hard-fought victories the week before in the qualifying rounds - against Harriston with a Taylor Hasson strike, and against Port Elgin with goals from Eartha Phorson and  Lauren Jolley.

This set up a final against Kincardine rivals Sleepers Bed Gallery.

The Brushwood girls started strongly and deserved their half-time lead after a powerful Natasha Adler  strike from a Bethany Clark assist.

A mix-up in the brushwood defence allowed the Sleepers team to equalize early in the second half and that led to a tense finish to the game, with Lara Clubb making some key saves in the dying moments.

Extra time failed to separate the teams and the penalty shoot-out was won by Brushwood with Adler and the previously-injured Maddie Duncan successfully converting their penalties and Phorson managing to keep out all the Sleepers' penalty.

The girls worked well together as a team all season and they and the coach would like to thank Brushwood for their sponsorship and wish owner Janet Hancock well in her upcoming retirement.
