Development Charges (DC) are going ahead after Saugeen Shores Town Council passed the By-law at Monday night's meeting on September 12 (2011).

A letter from the Reid's Heritage Group and Lord Elgin Estates Developments Ltd. (September 9) requested that Council defer the By-Law to  "...allow additional time for the development/building industry within the Town of Saugeen Shores to try to resolve concerns regarding the proposed DC By-law Amendment.

Reasons for the request for a deferral were:

  • We have not had time to review and provide a response to the Town and its consultant on a letter recently received from Hemson Consulting Ltd. responding to concerns as outlined in our consultant's (MHBS Plannning Limtied) letter (August 15)

  • In our initial; review of Hemson response letters, they did not fully address our concerns/questions as raised in our consultants' letters from Genivar and MHBC

  • We have serious concerns that the increase to DC, combined with the current DC for 'other services' or 'soft services' will have a significant negative impact on lots currently registered, purchased as well as future lots of the development/building industry within the Town

Council however, approved the By-law which will phase in Development Charges over three years.
