Sylvia Sheard, Chair of the Pretty in Pink Campaign and Mary Ann Weickert, Chair of Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation, brought a new idea to Town Council at its Monday night meeting.

"We are inviting stores within Saugeen Shores

to help us raise the awareness for the Saugeen

Memorial Hospital Foundation Regional Digital Mammography Campaign," said Sheard.

"We are asking businesses to help raise awareness by having a pink window display from September 17th to September 24th. In addition. we would ask you display a poster stating you have some Hospital Foundation brochures available to your customers should they wish to make a donation."

"Our local Hospital Foundation has made the commitment to raise $300,000 towards the new state of the art digital mammography machines located in Owen Sound Hospital," added Weickert.  "This is in addition to our annual requirement of $400,000 that goes toward infrastructure and equipment.  At the present time, the mammography equipment goal stands at $75,000, so we are behind."

According to Sheard, Saugeen Shores Mayor, Mike Smith, together with Dylan Bartlett from myFM Radio will judge the business window displays and the winner will receive a $500 free advertising package from myFM Radio.

"We hope businesses will participate and join us in this

worthwhile cause, which directly affects the women of our community," said Sheard.

One in five patients using the mammography service in Owen Sound lives in Saugeen Shores and one in nine women is expected to develop breast cancer during their lifetime so that early diagnosis is critical in saving lives.
