Senior Mens’ Golf News

The Senior Mens’ Club Championship was held this week at Chippewa, a two-day 36 hole event.  After the first day of play, in the A-flight, Dale Woods, a long time Chippewa member from Chesley, had a commanding lead over his competitors, carding a great score of 74.  His nearest competitor, Murray Clark, was five strokes back with a 79, while past champions Brian Acton and Rick Grolway recorded scores or 82 and 81 respectively.  If Woods could keep it together on the second day of play, the championship would be his.

In the B-flight, Barry Beatty and Kevin Dagnall were tied for the lead after day one with scores of 83.  Lou Bezaire was only one stroke back, and Mike Pitzen was in the hunt with an 85.  In the C-flight, Don Hill shot a great round of 87 to take the lead into the second day of play.  Jiggs Maynard was only four strokes back with a 91, while Barrie Robson and Bill Thomson were in at 92.

In the D-flight, John Upper held the lead after the first day of play with a score of 103, but Dennis Johnston and Bill Richards were close behind with scores of 105, while Watt Rodgers and Don White were lurking with rounds of 106.  On the second day of play, Upper had an even better round, carding an even 100, but Richards wound up tied with him after recording a 98, both players with two-day totals of 203.  A playoff was necessary to determine the winner of the flight, and after the dust had settled, Bill Richards was declared the D-flight winner, while Watt Rodgers took Second Low Gross with a two-day total of 207.  John Upper won the First Low Net award with a net total of 147, followed by Don White with a two-day net score of 147.

In the A-flight, on the second day of play, Woods was the only player to break 80, scoring a 78 and easily winning the Senior club Championship title with a two-day total of 152.  Congratulations, Dale!  Bill Thomson won the overall Low Net championship after winning a playoff with Don Hill, both with two-day net scores of 137.  Frank Yakabuski won First Low Gross in the flight with a two-day total of 160, followed by Brian Acton with 162.  Derryl Urstadt took First Low Net with a net total of 147, followed by Murray Clark, also with a net 147.
