Alicia Thacker and Jim Harker were home from Vancouver for a visit with their family. Eric and Linda Thacker also had visits from Lucas Thacker and friend Laura, as well as Tara and Andrew Frew, Adam and Charlotte. Visiting with Mary Anne Kukoly, Wednesday, were Bonnie and Irene Boyle. Congratulations to Alicia Scott of Teeswater who is our new Bruce County Queen of the Furrow! Amy Ribey was runner-up. There was a great crowd at the Match held at the farm of Ron and Janice Hammell Monday, Sept. 5. Janette Hammell will be our representative at the IPM in Prescott-Russell the last week of September. Good luck Janette! At the Mount Forest Fair Monday, Eric, Daniel and Grant Martin placed Reserve Champion Showman and Calf, Honourable Mention Calf and Sixth Intermediate Calf. Congratulations guys. Congratulations to Sarah (Courtney) and Danny Blank on the arrival of their daughter, Anya Jou. She's Bernice and Carmon Courtney's second grandchild and another great-grandchild for Joyce and Elmer Courtney and Anna and Peter Schewater. Cheryl Bridge enjoyed visiting with Mary Beth Kerr on Wednesday. Brianna Husk is off to McMaster University in Hamilton this year, Nicole Reid is back in London at Fanshawe College, and Michael Kerr is in his first year at Fanshawe. Airk, Alex and Shirley MacDonald attended a barbecue, movie and fireworks held at Chalmers Church Sunday, to finish off sessions in which the children learned new skills from archery to sewing. They also attended the Parkinson's SuperWalk held in Kincardine Sunday. Congratulations to all those who participated in the walk. Arik and Alex were thrilled to each win a voucher for a Big Mac at McDonald's once a month for a year, from the silent auction. Mary Anne Kukoly attended a Tilley (Orr connection) funeral in Arthur and then was pleased to attend the Arthur Fall Fair. While there, she also visited with Dianne and Wayne Orr of Holstein. The
Paisley Fall Fair had a huge turn-out and the crowd was entertained
later by the Gary Ballagh Family of Teeswater and some step dancers.
An excellent way to end the day. PURPLE GROVE W.I. HOLDS SEPTEMBER MEETING

The
meeting was turned over to our guest speaker, Lucy Gowers speaking
for the Parkinson Society of Southwestern Ontario. Her very
informative, helpful presentation kept everyone's attention. We've
learned that Parkinson's has affected leaders, actors, singers,
friends, neighbours and family. Nothing can cure this disease and so
far, only medications can help with the symptoms. here is no
remission for those affected and each individual is affected
differently. 150,000 people in Canada alone suffer with Parkinson's
and we need to support and understand those affected and keep
fighting for a cure.
Convener Mary Anne Kukoly thanked Lucy and we all wished her a safe journey to her home in Meaford. Secretary Fran Farrell read the minutes of the June and August meetings. One of the items of new business was that we donate to the Goderich Disaster Relief Fund. It helped to have Nancy Greenwood tell about the destruction to their home and neighbourhood. We discussed the WI Area Convention and Rally - both to be held in October. Mary Anne thanked all the Institute members for their help with the community shower for Becca Bridge, Christine Clifford and Gabrielle Finnie. Janet Nixon read a letter from the FWIO. The display for the Ripley Fall Fair was discussed. A request was sent around for those who can help at the Fall Fair Booth. We reminded to bring pies for the booth. We appreciate the ladies of the community who donate a pie as well (we ran out last year!!!). Maureen Collins and June Elliott with the help of her daughter, Nancy, served a delicious lunch and a great time of visiting followed. Scrolling stops when you move your mouse inside the scroll area.
