Mens’ Golf News

On September 15, Derryl Urstadt was the low scorer of his group, carding a 39 and winning First Low Gross in the A-flight.  Louis Bezaire won First Low Net with a net 35.  In the B-flight, Dan Coblenz scored the best round of the day, a one over par 36, to easily win First Low Gross.  Mike Cleary won First Low Net with a net 33. 

In the C-flight, Bill Berry won First Low Gross with a fine round of 45, while Kent Bergstrom strode to the prize table again, winning First Low Net with a net 35.  Wade Jackson won First Low Gross in the D-flight with a 47, and John Upper took First Low Net with a net 39. 

Mike Cleary won the Closest to the Pin competition on the fifth hole and Wade Jackson sunk the Longest Putt on #2. 

On Sept 22, Phil Hunt and Rick Collison tied for First Low Gross and First Low Net in the A-flight with gross scores of 39 and net scores of 32.  In the B-flight, Joel Norwood and Mike Cleary also tied for First Low Gross and First Low Net, with gross scores of 41 and net scores of 33. 

In the C-flight, Kent Bergstrom toddled back to the prize table, this time winning First Low gross with a 44, while Larry Curtis won First Low Net with a net 36.  Corey Whitehead won First Low Gross in the D-flight with a score of 43 while John Upper again captured First Low Net with a net 33. 

Rick Collison was Closest to the Pin on #5 while John Upper sunk the Longest Putt on the second hole. 

In Mens’ Team Match Play, Rick Grolway and Charlie Schmalz defeated Mike Cleary and Mike Pitzen in the semi-finals, while Frank Yakabuski and Kevin Dagnall eliminated Dan and Freeman Coblenz in the other semi-final match.   

Senior Mens’ Golf News 

On September 13, the Senior Men at Chippewa held a team scramble event.  Winning First Low Gross with a three under par 69 was the team captained by Barry Beatty with Harry Parker, Joe Chiappetta and Art Eby.  The team captained by Al Cruickshank with Peter Welford and Doug Oatman won Second Low Gross with a score of 70, only one stroke off the pace of the winning team. 

Watt Rodgers won the Closest to the Pin competition on the fifth hole while Doug Oatman won the same contest on #13. 

 

On Sept 20, regular golf returned with the eighteen hole competition.  In the A-flight, for handicaps 11 – 25, Louis Bezaire won First Low Gross with an 82, followed by Mike Pitzen with a score of 85.  Barry Beatty won First Low Net with a net 69, while Terry Bailey and Al Cruickshank shared Second Low Net with net scores of 73. 

In the B-flight, for handicaps 26 and above, Peter Welford won First Low Gross with a 95, followed by John Upper with a score of 97.  Don White had a fine round of 98, and won First Low Net with a net 67, followed by Bert Tripp with a net 69. 

Barry Beatty won the Closest to the Pin competition on the fifth hole, and Steve Webb won the High Hidden Hole on #3 with a 7. 

In Senior Mens’ Match Play action, in the final match, Paul Holk defeated Mike Pitzen to win the overall Senir Mens’ Match Play championship.  Congratulations to Paul.
