BLISS by Jackie Rowley

'Memories' by Ida Mcaulay of McDonald's Lane, Southampton

Pretty in Pink chaired by Sylvia Sheard undertook a new project this year, Paint the Town Pink in lead-up to the gala luncheon on October 23 (2011).  'Paint the Town Pink' took off as merchants and residents decorated in pink for the week of September 17 - 24th.

Today, we look at Southampton and tomorrow Port Elgin.  The final judging of the participants will take place on Thursday, September 22 by Saugeen Shores Mayor Mike Smith and MyFM's Dylan Bartlett

In Southampton, 'going Pink' for some was for very personal reasons.

For Ida Mcaulay, who decorated the entire front of her home, it was because cancer has touched her family through her mother, her grandmother (Nanna), her aunt and her sister. A regular in the Cancer 'Relay for Life' Mcaulay also supports many projects and campaigns as a volunteer.

Jackie Rowley, owner of BLISS also had very meaningful reasons for participating in pink.

"My window is dedicated to my mum's memory who battled cancer for five years," says Rowley, but, unfortunately, she died in 1985 at the age of 46.  I am so very proud that turning the age of 50 next week, I have not only achieved my dream of opening my own store before I was 50, I have been open for over one year now.  After having a great summer, I feel confident that BLISS will continue to grow."

Rowley adds her appreciation to all her customers and brides/  "Most of all," she says, "I want to thank my valued staff ... I could not have done it without you"!

During the 'Pretty in Pink' campaign, 20% of ALL pink sales at BLISS will be donated to the digital mammography equipment campaign.
