At one time, Southampton Harbour was a busy commercial port with warehouses for grain and fishing sheds as well as being a busy shipbuilding centre. In the late 1800s, there was a fishing fleet of more than a dozen vessels and tugs employing almost 60 men.
Dry-dock work continues Today, Southampton Harbour remains a 'working harbour' with fishing boats but it is also a pleasure boat destination, a home for the Southampton Yacht Club and the docking facility for Chantry Island Tours.
