Dear Editor:

Getting a new hospital addition (as just announced for Kincardine) doesn't just happen. It takes a lot of work by several people.

Proper documents had to be submitted by hospital administration to the LHIN (Local Health Integration Network). This was done and the LHIN okayed the proposal.

The proposal then went to the Ontario Ministry of Health for approval. This took a lot of work by hospital administration, and Huron-Bruce MPP Carol Mitchell on our behalf. We aren't the only town wanting a new build.

The proposal was okayed by the ministry, therefore, an announcement was made by Mitchell that Kincardine hospital would have a new addition.

The provincial government will pay 90 per cent, leaving 10 per cent, or several million, to be fund-raised in the community by 2015, which is not too far away - 2015 is the ground-breaking date.

In regard to the 14 LHINs, like them or not, they hand out the money, billions of dollars to hospitals, Community Care Access Centres, Long-Term Care, Home Care,  Mental Health Centres, etc. If they are dissolved without something to replace them, who will be in charge of those dollars and how will they be handled?

Maybe we should count our blessings. Negativity doesn't help.

Sincerely,
Lois Hackett
