Oh, what a difference a week makes.

Kincardine council took an extensive amount of time at the Sept. 14 meeting debating the issue of qualified bidders for the job of Tiverton arena manager.

At that time, neither of the two Requests for Proposal that were submitted, fit the bill, according to councillor Kenneth Craig, who is policy chairman for recreation. So, both were rejected, and the recommendation was for the Kincardine recreation department to run the Tiverton Sports Centre.

However, council disagreed with that and directed a sub-committee of deputy mayor Anne Eadie, councillors Candy Hewitt and Randy Roppel, and recreation director Karen Kieffer, to interview the candidates and bring back a recommendation.

Last night, (Sept. 21), that recommendation was to accept the proposal from Ev'Rose Layne of Tiverton, at a bid of $63,958, to operate and manage the Tiverton Sports Centre for one year. The other bid was from Chad Woods.

Budget for this service was $66,876.

Hewitt said the interviews allowed the committee a chance to verify and clarify some of the information in the proposals.

"We identified areas of concern we had when we spoke with both applicants," she said. "That helped answer some of our questions and alleviate a lot of our concerns."

Later, in council session, the recommendation was approved.
