The Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation was on the receiving end of some much-needed funding this week.

The Ripley Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 440, presented $2,000 from its poppy fund, to go toward the cost of three carts for the Automated Dispensing Machine.

The carts will be used to dispense the medication with individually-labelled bar code packaging and labelled bar code at the bedside which requires scanning for an exact match before the medication is disbursed to the patient, said foundation co-ordinator/treasurer Diane Baldwin.

Cost of the carts is $50,000 each which includes the lines and software. Three carts are needed at the Kincardine hospital, for a total cost of $150,000. Having this piece of equipment will reduce errors to almost nil. It has CPOE (Computer Patient Order Entry) which is virtually foolproof. This equipment will be big for Kincardine with the safest and best patient outcome.

To date, the Ripley Legion has donated $6,500: $1,500 toward the mammogram machine; $1,500 toward the analyzer; $1,500 toward the Bone Mineral Density Machine; and now $3,000 toward the carts for the dispensing machine.

Kincardine was also on the receiving end of a substantial donation from the 10th annual Bruce Power Charity Golf Tournament held Aug. 19 at the Saugeen Golf Club in Port Elgin.

This year was the most successful event ever, with final proceeds reaching an outstanding $129,000 to be shared equally between the Kincardine hospital foundation and the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation.

The Kincardine foundation sends a heartfelt thanks to Bruce Power and the many sponsors, donors, participants and volunteers who made the golf tournament such a huge success.
