It was a glorious sunny Saturday for the Mammoth Parade and other activities at the Ripley-Huron Fall Fair, following a rainy Friday night start to the event. The parade went for a half-hour, marching up Huron Street and Queen Street to the fairgrounds, and featured the Kincardine Scottish Pipe Band and the Brussels Legion Pipe Band, several floats, antique cars, tractors, horse teams, children on bikes and carts, and more. Besides the parade, the fair was host to 4-H sheep, beef and dairy shows, a poultry show, exhibits and vendors inside the community centre, a heavy horse show, the midway, and entertainment by the Glenn Boyd Band and The Pleats, Andrea Zimmer's shadow box puppet show, and the Ripley Lions' famous beef-on-a-bun. Following the parade, Cecil Sutton welcomed the huge crowd and said a lot of work goes into the fair each year - and that's all volunteer work. "It doesn't just happen this week," he said. "When this year's fair ends, organizers will started putting things together for next year. We're blessed that we have so many willing volunteers in the Ripley area; that's what makes a community strong. "It's a beautiful day. I hope the fair continues for years and years. Thanks to everyone for coming out and now, I declare the 148th Ripley-Huron Fall Fair officially open."
