It took some late heroics, but the Winterhawks managed
to stay undefeated against an improved Shallow Lake
Crushers club.

Brendon Haefling scored with 1:25 left in the 3rd period
to give the Winterhawks a 5-4 win (2-0-0) in a
back-and-forth battle.

The scoring opened on a shorthanded goal by Darryl
McKinnon four minutes into the game, but Shallow Lake
answered right back less than four minutes later.

The second period saw some undisciplined play as the
Hawks felt the effects of a short bench.

Shallow Lake struck twice in the second, including a goal
while on a two-man advantage, but the Hawks answered
back each time to send it to the third period all tied up
at 3-3.

The Winterhawks took the lead about halfway through
the third period on a goal by Bryan Kazarian, but Shallow
Lake was able to tie it up mere minutes later.

The game stayed tied up until Haefling's winner with
less than two minutes to go.

Brent MacDermid picked up the honours as the
Crabby Joe's Player of the Game with a shorthanded
 goal and two assists.

Andrew Smith made 15 saves in goal for his first win
