MO-TEA-TO
1/4 c fresh mint leaves
1 tbsp sugar
juice of one lime
1/4 c brewed mint tea, chilled
3 tbsp light rum
crushed ice
soda water
In a tumbler, muddle the mint leaves with the sugar and lime juice,
pressing them with a wooden spoon until the sugar is dissolved. Add the
tea and rum. Fill the glass with crushed ice and add soda water to
taste.
Serves 1
This re imagining of the great mojito cocktail ups the ante of mint
flavour by adding brewed mint tea to the mix. These are best made
individually, crushing (muddling) the fresh mint directly in the serving
glass.
Cover tea while it brews so that the leaves will unfurl properly.
Experiment by covering one pot and leaving another uncovered and
discover the taste difference firsthand.
Tea was first hailed as a cure-all upon arriving in Europe during the
early 1600s. One of the earliest known tea advertisements extolled tea a
"most wholesome, preserving in perfect health until extreme Old Age."
